Brenton Scott Beshers 12/30/1996- 4/30/2013
My second cousin Brent lost his two year battle to childhood cancer last week. Well… I take that back, he didn’t lose the battle… he fought hard, had more strength than most of us could fathom obtaining and he BEAT the battle of childhood cancer. Cancer didn’t win, Brent did!
This week my heart just aches for his mom and dad ( Amie: my cousin & Jay), siblings (by birth and “adopted”), his grandparents, family members and the numerous amount of friends that he blessed during his time here on Earth.
How do they move on? How do they pick up the broken pieces and start living a normal life again? Brent’s body is now made whole (thank you Jesus) but those who loved him so much are broken.
As hard as it is to fathom and as easy as it is to question… I find it in my heart to pray that every single day we are able to see a glimpse of “SON”shine in the midst of the darkness. For Brent is blinded by the SON right now. The Glory of Jesus is ever so bright upon Brent’s new body.
One amazing glimpse of SONshine came to Amie and Jay last Saturday when they returned to the funeral home to make arrangements to begin paying on their sons funeral. When they arrived to the office… they discovered that their debt had been PAID IN FULL!! I can’t even imagine the gratitude and joy they felt knowing that someone anonymously paid this huge bill for them.
Upon hearing this amazing story, my mind turned to thoughts of Brent and how he must have felt passing from this life into eternity knowing that his debt had also been PAID IN FULL!!! We know without a doubt that Brent is now free and with Jesus. His youth pastor spoke at his funeral about the day two years ago when Brent turned his life over to Christ. Brent accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and used every waking moment to shine the light of Jesus to everyone he encountered.
Brent’s debt was paid in full just like the debt from the funeral costs. I know if Brent were still here with us now he would be asking every single person if their debt was paid in full as well.
So in honor of Brent… I must leave you with this question… have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? Is your debt PAID IN FULL???
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 NIV)
… that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9 NIV)
